Mixed Media

My artwork titled “Take Cover” depicts the horrors that American students face due to the unspeakable gun violence epidemic. I created a collage of gruesome newspaper headlines illustrating the frequency and severity of countless school shootings in the United States of America. The oozing red paint demonstrates blood of the innocent. The student taking cover beneath their desk, made with acrylic paint on paper, is paralyzed with fear while being faced with death. My hometown of Highland Park has had experience with the gut-wrenching terrors of gun violence. Walking through the metal detectors in order to enter my school brings me back to the horrors of what my community experienced. I hope to provoke change by revealing the suffering and injustice that students across the nation face.
