Hope Kits

Hope Kits by Sumner Silver are portable trauma-response kits designed to provide immediate first aid, particularly for gunshot wounds and other trauma injuries. So far, we’ve raised over $10,000 and created + distributed over 180 Hope Kits across the Chicagoland area.

How’d Hope Kits Come About?

Following the Highland Park mass shooting, I asked myself, “How can I help minimize the magnitude of such a tragedy?” I decided to become Stop the Bleed certified. As I spoke with volunteers from the parade, many told me they wished they had been able to do something. “I got a lot of feedback from the volunteers at the parade, and they mentioned that they wish they could have been able to do something,” I told The Chicago Tribune. That’s when the idea for Hope Kits was born.

What’s inside?

Each kit contains a Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT), emergency wound-packing gauze, and step-by-step instructions for first aid, as well as other essential items like gloves and a Sharpie to record the tourniquet application time.
